| Wing Chun
is the name of a Chinese martial art which was developed by a
woman over 250 years ago, and made popular in modern times by
the late Kung-Fu Film star Bruce Lee.
The Theory
for Wing Chun was developed by five Grandmasters of the Shil Lim
(Shaolin) Temple in order to develop a system which could be learned
in one-third the normal time, yet best the older systems. However,
before the system was implemented, the Temple was raided and burned
to the ground by the Manchu's. The Nun Ng Mui escaped with the
information on the system and developed the movements herself.
Traditional
Wing Chun is a form of Wing Chun which was passed down only from
Grandmaster to Grandmaster until 1974 when the current Grandmaster,
William Cheung, decided to go public with the art.
Grandmaster
Cheung was a live in student of the late Grandmaster, Yip Man
in the 1950's. In 1954 Cheung introduced his long time friend,
Bruce Lee, to Wing Chun training and helped him develop his skills
and philosophy. Bruce Lee later described Cheung as the "Deadliest
fighter on Earth".
The aim of
Wing Chun Kung-Fu is to develop Physical, Mental, and Spiritual
Awareness. Self awareness, self respect and a duty to serve should
be the goal of every participant.
Bob Shores'
Chinese Boxing academy is currently the only school in the state
of Oregon authorized to teach the Traditional Wing Chun system
by Grandmaster William Cheung. Si Fu Shores is a direct disciple
of Grandmaster Cheung and has trained in the Traditional Wing
Chun system since 1983.
